Green Oaks Golf Club Newsletter
May 2009

General Membership News:April has been a sad Month, as Mr. Don Cox, a member of Green Oaks for 35 years has passed away. Our deepest sympathies to the family. Don was a friend to all who knew him.

New Members: April has brought us Jazz Harmond and Chad Johnston. May you find a new home, friends and fellow golfer to enjoy our course with.

Weather: We have had a very rainy month and some severe storms that knocked down trees and damaged the Bathroom on Number 4. Thanks to Wayne and Ms Jennie plus the following volunteers, Arl Taylor, Dennis Cox, Mike Spalding and Bobby Parker, they were able to keep the course open for play. We appreciate your efforts and support.

Annual Membership Meeting: The annual membership meeting was held on the 7th of April, the attendance was very dismal, of the total current membership we barely had enough present to hold the meeting . We need everyone to attend these Annual Meetings!!!! Every member has a vote in how this course operates, Please exercise your vote at the next annual meeting.A very special thanks to Billy Conn and Gene Davenport. These individuals remained on the Board of Directors for ten years. If you see them, please thank them for their service.

Newly elected board members: Mr. Fred Chappell, Mr. Greg Bryant, and Mr. Bobby Parker. These newly elected members along with Mr. Stanley Taggart, Mr. Bruce Stevens, and Mr. George Dowdle will work their hardest to make Green Oaks Golf Club the best golf course in the area. With the help of you the Membership (Owners), Green Oaks can be the best around.

Green Oaks Committees: We have committees that are doing a great job!

Ladies of Green Oaks (LOGO):
These ladies have done a great job on the course and in and around the club house. They can use some new blood to help them with projects. Take time and volunteer. Contact Mrs. Vicki Evans if you are interested in helping out.

Green Oaks Tournament Committee:This is a thankless job but they have done a great job and it seems our tournament fields are starting to grow . There is going to be a two person scramble May 9-10 and a 3 person scramble on May 30-31. The three person will have a $10,000.00 Hole-In-One prize. Come out and play and support your club.

Green Oaks Men's Golf Association: This has been inactive for several years, if anyone would like to restart this association, contact Mr. Bobby Parker for information.

Volunteers: As mentioned earlier, we need volunteers to help keep the course in top shape. After a severe storm, if you have a few hours free, call the club house and see if there is anything that you can do. We may not have had any damage, but if we had, all the assistance we can get to help Mr. Wayne and his wife Mrs. Virginia, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Bobby

Other events: We have steak night every Thursday Night and sometimes we have catfish fries and crawfish boils, stop by the club house and see what is happening. There is a Crawfish and Catfish Fry schedules for the 16th of May. Tickets are on sale for $15.00 each. Check with the Pro Shop or Mrs. Vicky Evans for tickets

From the Superintendent:The course has been very wet but it is holding up very well. We will spray and aerate the Greens as soon as possible. Again, a special Thanks to the Volunteers.

Thanks, Wayne
